Muneli Child Centre

Nurturing Every Child’s Potential

Muneli Child Centre is a non-profit organisation established in 2018 with a mission to improve the welfare of children with unique aspirations and limited recognition in the Sinde community and beyond. The centre aims to provide a safe and supportive learning environment and to address the social and educational challenges faced by underprivileged children. Its vision is to create an inclusive, hardworking community that fosters a self-reliant society, and its motto is "My strength, my future."

The centre operates two main programmes: one for children with disabilities and another for early childhood education. It faces challenges due to limited resources, including classroom space, a feeding programme, a play area, access to water, and the need for additional teachers. Despite these obstacles, Muneli Child Centre is committed to providing better opportunities for children and welcomes support from others to help achieve its goals.

The centre also runs literacy clubs, a fun club supporting girls, and promotes environmental conservation within the community.

Zambezi Animal Welfare Services (ZAWS)

Giving Animals a Second Chance

Zambezi Animal Welfare Services (ZAWS) was founded in 2014 as a non-profit organisation dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming dogs and cats in Livingstone, the Zambian "tourist capital," while also providing education, vaccination, and treatment services for animals in both urban and rural areas. The organisation’s mission is to promote a smaller and healthier population of domestic animals and to curb the numbers of feral dogs and cats through spaying and neutering initiatives, vaccinations, and community education on animal welfare.

The team behind ZAWS, made up of a group of animal-loving friends, passionately believes that rescued animals are not damaged but have been let down by humans. Their goal is to give as many of these animals as possible a second chance, nurturing them physically and emotionally until they become joyful and healthy beings that can enjoy life once again.

Throughout its relatively brief existence, ZAWS has earned the support and appreciation of local communities and the government thanks to its comprehensive programmes, including education, community veterinary outreach, population control through sterilisation, and rescue efforts. As the sole domestic animal welfare organisation in the southern and western regions of Zambia, ZAWS plays a crucial role, making a significant difference in the lives of countless animals. To sustain their vital work, the organisation relies on the generosity of donors who provide shelter, food, bedding, and medical care for rescued animals.

Mukwa Football Team

Empowering Youth Through Sport

Driven by a shared vision to empower local youth and encourage positive, healthy activities while discouraging negative behaviours such as alcohol abuse, gambling, and early pregnancy, a dedicated group from the community, supported by Mukwa River Lodge, came together. In 2022, the Mukwa football team was established and officially registered with the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ).

Comprising 30 boys and young men from nearby villages, the team has become a symbol of determination and resilience. Every Sunday throughout the season, they play home and away matches, supported by rigorous training four times a week. Their dedication has propelled them from Division 5 to Division 4.

To sustain their progress, the players require updated football kits, including home and away sets, boots, high-quality footballs, nets, refreshments, and funds for transportation and logistics for away games. For players who do not live near the pitch due to work or school, support is also needed for travel, accommodation, and meals.

Football holds immense significance for many Zambians, and this project has garnered strong support from the local community. It serves as a unifying force, fostering positive role models and giving participants invaluable opportunities to develop their skills, focus, and pride in their achievements.

Mukeya Development Centre

Skills That Transform Lives

Mukeya Developmental Centre is a community centre dedicated to combating poverty by equipping widowed women with income-generating skills such as shoemaking, garment-making, and other life skills to support their families. Spearheaded by Mbanacele Tolombita and Christine Siavuta, the project is inspired by Mbanacele’s personal experience of growing up with a widowed mother and witnessing her struggles. Mbanacele has devoted his life to empowering widowed women, believing that “when a woman is empowered, a nation is fed.”
